Buren Law The Hague
Perched high above the city in the iconic De Haagse Zwaan, the new Buren office spans levels 16, 17, and 20, offering breathtaking panoramic views of The Hague. Our design ambition was to respect the client’s desire for enclosed working rooms while reimagining what a traditional law office could feel like.
On the working floors—levels 16 and 17—we embraced the need for privacy and focus, yet infused the spaces with richness, variety, and surprise. No two rooms are the same. By playing with varying sizes and depths, and by reshaping straight corridors into a dynamic sequence of zones, the environment constantly unfolds as you move through it. Every few steps, introduce a new spatial experience through the use of arched forms, integrated greenery, diverse wall finishes, and layered carpet patterns.
Transparency between spaces fosters openness and encourages collaboration, subtly shifting the firm’s spatial language toward connection and modernity. This is further emphasized by a sculptural, spiraling internal staircase and a shared central coffee point—both key architectural gestures that link the two working floors and invite spontaneous interaction.
Level 20 crowns the project with a refined yet relaxed atmosphere. This floor houses the reception, client meeting rooms, and a large multifunctional social area. The ambiance is a compelling blend of corporate elegance and bohemian charm. Carefully curated materials evoke a sense of hospitality—artisan plasterwork, organic shapes, and tactile surfaces are composed in dialogue with a clear, efficient layout and formal meeting spaces.
The generous social zone is anchored by an oversized bar, surrounded by a variety of seating arrangements that support everything from informal gatherings to client events, dinners, and presentations. It’s a space where business and hospitality meet—elevated both literally and figuratively by the magnificent skyline views over The Hague.
